A Message of Mercy, Wisdom, and Peace to Nigerians
A Message of Mercy, Wisdom, and Peace to Nigerians
This message is a Rahmah (Mercy) and sincere call for peace to Christians and Muslims affected by insecurity, banditry, terrorism, and violent attacks in some parts of Nigeria.
Religion should never become a weapon for hatred, revenge, or the destruction of innocent lives. True religion is meant to guide humanity toward peace, justice, compassion, and righteousness.
Islam Is a Religion of Peace.
Qur'an teaches peace, justice, and mercy. Islam does not permit the killing of innocent people.
Allah says in the Qur’aan:
“Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption in the land — it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one — it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.” — Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:32
Allah also says:
“And do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.” — Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:8
Prophet Muhammad said:
“A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands people are safe.” — Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim
Another Hadith states:
“Whoever harms a non-Muslim under protection harms me.” — Sunan al-Bayhaqi
These teachings clearly show that violence against innocent people, whether Christians or Muslims, is against the true teachings of Islam.
Christianity Also Teaches Love and Peace
The Bible equally teaches peace, forgiveness, and love for humanity.
Jesus Christ said:
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matthew 5:9
The Bible also says:
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” — Mark 12:31
And again:
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21
Therefore, true Christianity and true Islam both stand against injustice, hatred, terrorism, and the killing of innocent souls.
The Need for Wisdom and Proper Investigation.
Many violent incidents happening across the nation are often quickly interpreted through religious sentiments without proper investigation. This increases division, revenge, fear, and insecurity.
Before accusing an entire religion or community, wisdom and proper investigation are necessary.
Allah says in the Qur’aan:
“O you who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance and become regretful.” — Surah Al-Hujurat 49:6
Likewise, the Bible teaches:
“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” — Proverbs 18:17
This means that communities, religious leaders, security agencies, and citizens must avoid acting emotionally or spreading unverified information that may worsen conflict.
A Reflection on the State of Religion in Society
Many people today claim religion outwardly, yet their actions contradict the teachings of their faiths. We must honestly ask ourselves:
- Are we truly practicing the Islam taught by Prophet Muhammad?
- Are we truly practicing the Christianity taught by Jesus Christ?
True religion should produce:
- Justice
- Mercy
- Good character
- Discipline
- Contentment
- Love for humanity
When religion becomes a tool for greed, selfishness, tribalism, manipulation, or violence, then society begins to suffer confusion and unrest.
The Parable of the Three Rooms
Imagine religion and society as a building with three rooms. Each room is supplied with different forms of provision and blessings.
- Room One receives rice.
- Room Two receives beans.
- Room Three receives spaghetti.
Instead of being grateful and disciplined, some individuals become greedy and deceptive. They secretly manipulate relationships between rooms not out of love or unity, but to gain selfish advantage from all sides.
Over time, confusion, dishonesty, and divided loyalties grow. When conflict eventually arises, such people use deception, false identity, emotional manipulation, and hidden alliances to protect themselves and exploit opportunities.
This parable teaches that not every conflict should immediately be interpreted only through religious identity. Sometimes greed, politics, criminality, tribal interests, revenge, and selfish ambitions hide behind religious labels.
Therefore, wisdom, investigation, patience, and justice are necessary before retaliation or public accusations.
The Role of Security Agencies and Spiritual Leaders
The responsibility of protecting lives belongs to:
- The Nigeria Police Force
- Security agencies
- Community leaders
- Religious leaders
- Traditional rulers
- Responsible citizens
Every allegation of violence or terrorism should be properly investigated with evidence and fairness.
Spiritual leaders must also pray for peace and guide followers away from extremism, hatred, and false judgment.
Words from Great Sufi Scholars
Ahmad al-Tijani taught that closeness to Allah is not by outward appearance alone, but by purity of heart, good character, and service to humanity.
Ibrahim Niasse emphasized that:
“The heart that knows Allah does not oppress His creation.”
Jalal al-Din Rumi said:
“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”
These teachings remind us that spirituality without mercy and wisdom is incomplete.
Final Call for Peace and Justice
Let Christians and Muslims in Nigeria avoid revenge, hatred, false accusations, and emotional reactions.
Let there be:
- Proper investigation
- Justice
- Wisdom
- Patience
- Peaceful dialogue
- Cooperation with security agencies
May Allah protect Nigeria from division, bloodshed, terrorism, hatred, and manipulation.
May God guide all religious leaders, political leaders, security agencies, and citizens toward truth, justice, and peaceful coexistence.
“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and kindness.” — Surah An-Nahl 16:90
“If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” — Romans 12:18
